Make a boat trip to Preveli or relax on a fishing-trip! From the port, a path leads along the cliff and a small palm grove to the beach. An old bridge leading to the second part of the beach, which is often is bit more quite.
Beside Knossos, Phaistos is the most important and most significant Minoan palaces. In the museum of Heraklion is the world famous "Phaistos Disc", which was found in Phaistos.
The beautiful view from the palace to the Ida Mountains alone worth the visit. The palaces was linked to the ancient port of the settlement, Kommos, located about six miles southwest at the Libyan Sea, north of the present Matala (with its famous caves)
The coast of the Libyan Sea offers the most beautiful beaches, like Komos & Kalamaki, Triopetra, the palm beach of Preveli and many more. You can reach them by boat or by car. Combine your trips with a visit to the caves of Matala, the vamous Monastery of Akadi or to the city of Rethymnon.
